Hyrum was always a very active kid. He loved soccer, climbing trees, tumbling, and dancing. He ran everywhere he went. Rarely sat still. Even video games were a sport. The illness took much of that away, but he kept trying.
He loves playing volleyball. In seventh grade he played on the team for the first time. He got sick mid season and it was rough the second half of the season. He missed more practices and games than he wanted. He finished off strong.
This year, for 8th grade, he rocked it. Coach Woody made it possible and it was incredible. Allowing Hyrum to push at his pace. Coach Woody was always encouraging Hyrum but aware enough to pull him out when he needed to. Alternating Hyrum in and out of the game for the much needed brakes. This was something that would have never been possible two years ago. All of his teammates worked so hard together.

His team made it to the tournament and came in 2nd place out of ten teams. A big win! The value of being able to do things that you love, even if you have to modify things can not be replaced. Volleyball is that things for Hyrum. It is the one sport that he can still make it through. He loves it. I love watching him play.
Hyrum just keeps pushing forward. Who knows where he will end up.
