His teacher was the first one to notice something was wrong when Hyrum came back to school after his 14 day quarantine. She contacted me concerned with the big changes she was seeing. He no longer knew answers to math problems (he was in the top of his peers), and he was struggling to write. He wouldn't run around, play or answer questions.
We wondered if he was still feeling fatigued from being sick even though he only had visible or detectable illness for 3 days. We were not sure what was going on and we both decided to wait and watch. I would have him sleep and rest more thinking this was the problem. I had no idea what was about to unfold.
Less than a week later he would be walking in class and then couldn't. He felt like his head would explode, he was so nauseated and weak. At first the teacher thought he was joking around, but it quickly became clear he was not. They helped him to the office. I picked him up 30 minutes later. The nurse helped him to the car, letting me know that there was something really serious going on. This would be the beginning a long hard road for us.
